JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three people, including a child, are suffering from life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash with injuries on Merrill Road Thursday afternoon.
All westbound lanes of Merrill Road are closed at Columbine Drive due to the crash, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Traffic is being diverted onto Columbine Drive.
A White Dodge Journey made a hard left turn going East. Witnesses told police it looked like the driver made the turn as if there was some type of mechanical failure going on or as if they were trying to make a U-turn.
After turning, the vehicle crashed into a utility pole. Police said two men had to be rescued from the car by crews.
A small child around three or four years old was also inside the car during the crash, police said.
All three individuals were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to JSO.
The child is related to the men that were inside the car but JSO is not sure of the relationship at this time.
JSO said the road will be blocked off for at least another hour as traffic homicide units investigate the scene.
