ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A man is facing multiple charges after police say he struck two pedestrians with his car and then crashed into a cemetery in Downtown St. Augustine on Tuesday night.
According to the St. Augustine Police Department (SAPD), Justin Lee Edwards, 29, was driving his truck around 1 a.m near Tolomato Lane and Cordova Street. when he lost control and crashed.
SAPD says Edwards pushed the two victims through a concrete wall with the front of his vehicle.
The police report details that before police arrived on scene, Edwards had exited the truck and was attempting to push the truck off the wall.
When SAPD arrived on the scene, they identified Edwards as the driver and noticed he was very uneasy on his feet. According to the police, Edwards did not pass the field sobriety tests and towards the end of the exercises said, "just put me in the back of the car."
One of the victims, a woman, was flown to Orange Park Hospital with two broken legs. Another male victim was treated with stitches at Flagler Hospital and later flown to Orange park with neck injuries.
Additionally, aside from hurting two pedestrians, police say that Edward's vehicle caused approximately $10,000 in damage to the wall and fencing of the cemetery.
Edwards has been charged with one count of reckless driving, one count of DUI and Damage to property, and one count of DUI and damage causing serious bodily injury.
