Lawncare worker struck and killed by teen driver, marking 132nd traffic fatality in Duval County

The crash happened around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday on Braddock Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A lawncare worker was struck and killed while working on Braddock Road in Jacksonville Wednesday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said around 2:50 p.m., a man in his early 20s was edging the sidewalk on the west side of the 11600 block of Braddock Road. 

A Jeep driver in his mid-teens was southbound on Braddock Road when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and struck the lawncare worker, police said.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.

The teenage driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with police. 

Traffic investigators said the driver could be 15 or 16, and he was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Investigators said there are no indications of impairment.

This marks the 132nd traffic fatality in Duval County just this year, police said.

Braddock Road was shut down following the crash to allow investigators to canvas the scene.
