JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The woman behind the wheel of the Jacksonville Transit Authority bus that was struck by a train July 1 was fired Friday.
Carolyn Simmons was identified by officials as the one behind the wheel when her bus entered the tracks at Post Street and McDuff Avenue and collided with an Amtrak train.
Simmons was originally placed on “hold off” status, according to her employer. First Coast News learned Tuesday that she was terminated July 5 for "not following JTA safety procedures."
