Jacksonville officer at fault for overnight crash that seriously injured woman on I-10, police say

Police say the officer was at fault for the crash, however there are no pending charges at this time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was seriously injured after a crash involving an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office overnight.

JSO says around 11:40 p.m., JSO Officer D. Curry was working off-duty on I-10 eastbound and McDuff Avenue with a highway construction company.

At some point, the officer pulled his issued marked JSO vehicle onto an open lane of traffic, police say.

Police say a woman was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on I-10 and didn't see the officer pull out. As a result, JSO says the woman struck his vehicle, which caused significant property damage to both vehicles.

As a result of the traffic crash, the officer sustained minor injuries, however, the woman sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, JSO says.

Police say no one else was injured, and no one else was involved.

JSO says the officer and the construction workers were attempting to block the middle lane of the highway, however the officer moved prior to the construction truck, and he did not clear traffic prior to moving his vehicle.

Police say the officer was at fault for the crash, however there are no pending charges at this time.
