ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A Flagler County deputy is recovering at a local hospital Tuesday after he was hit while on a motorcycle in St. Johns County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP says at 8:30 a.m., an 18-year-old Jacksonville man who was driving a sedan, along with the 39-year-old deputy, were both traveling southbound on Interstate 95, north of mile marker 314. The FHP crash report states that the teen was traveling in the left lane, while the deputy was traveling in the inside shoulder with emergency lights activated.
The report further details that the teen failed to observe the deputy as he attempted to enter the median break. FHP says as a result, the front of the deputy's motorcycle collided with the left side of the teen's sedan.
The sedan came to final rest in the median break facing southeast, while the deputy fell from his motorcycle and came to final rest south of the median break, according to FHP.
FHP says the deputy who is from St. Augustine, suffered serious injuries in the crash.
The crash has caused the left southbound lane at mile marker 314 to be blocked currently, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. No northbound lanes have closed on the interstate, but traffic is being impacted on that side, too. Drivers should use caution in the area.
