FLORIDA, USA — AAA said Monday that Florida's gas price average could fall below $3 per gallon before October and that its gas prices currently are the lowest it's been since January.

Gas prices in the Sunshine State are continuing their "downward march" in response to falling oil prices, according to AAA. Last week, the U.S. price of crude oil slipped to $65.75 per pound, which is the lowest since December 2021, AAA also said; the price of crude oil influences about half of the price of gas.

On Sunday, Florida's gas price average was $3.11 per gallon — the lowest daily average since Jan. 23, AAA said. The lowest 10% of unleaded gas prices statewide averaged $2.82 per gallon, while the highest 10% of unleaded gas prices in the state averaged $3.47 per gallon.

"It has been 237 days since Florida gas prices were below $3 a gallon, but that streak could come to an end soon," AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a news release. "Oil prices suffered big losses in recent weeks, due to global economic concerns and the belief that global fuel supplies could begin to outpace demand. This could enable the state average to fall below $3 a gallon before October."

Furthermore, the American Automobile Association says more than a quarter of Florida gas stations already have pump prices below $3 per gallon. A chart from AAA shows Georgia's gas price average over the weekend dipped below $3, as it was $2.98 per gallon on Saturday and $2.97 per gallon on Sunday.
