JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man died in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at Herlong Recreational Airport on Jacksonville's Westside Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Preliminary information reveals that the man was driving his vehicle eastbound on Normandy Boulevard, approaching the intersection of Herlong Road, the crash report states. "For reasons still under investigation," FHP says the vehicle veered off the road and into the grass shoulder.
After veering off, the vehicle "continued through the perimeter fence of Herlong Regional Airport" and then, "struck the hangar bay and entered into that building," the crash report states. FHP says the vehicle came to final rest inside of the hangar.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene as FHP says the time of the crash is under investigation as well, the crash report states.
