JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Fleming Island man is dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 295 Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
An FHP crash report states an 18-year-old Orange Park woman was driving a sedan southbound on I-295 near San Jose Boulevard in the right lane when the driver merged into the center lane in the direct path of a semitrailer.
The front of the semitrailer crashed into the left side of the sedan, causing it to veer into the left lane where it crashed into a 54-year-old motorcyclist from Fleming Island.
The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where he died, according to FHP.
The driver of the sedan and semitrailer were not hurt.
The crash shut down lanes of I-295 as crews responded to the scene.
FHP said the crash is under active investigation.
This marks at least the 15th motorcyclist killed in a crash in Duval County this year.
