JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man, 31, is dead after a crash on Interstate 95 Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say around 7:39 p.m., a Ford Expedition was north on I-95 in the right lane heading over the Iron Bridge when the vehicle experienced a malfunction. The 55-year-old man driving the SUV stopped in the gore area between the travel lanes of I-95, according to FHP.
A Yamaha YZF600 motorcycle was heading north on I-95 in the right lane, but charged lanes across the gore area where the SUV was stopped, troopers say.
The front of the motorcycle crashed into the back of the SUV and the rider was killed, FHP said. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
This traffic fatality marks the 30th involving a motorcycle in Duval County this year.
