CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Green Cove Springs man was killed while walking on US-17 in Clay County Tuesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A crash report states around 7 a.m., a sedan was heading northbound in the inside lane of US-17 nearing Lovers Lane when a man, 68, walked into the intersection.

Officials said as the sedan was traveling in the inside lane, the man walked directly in front of the vehicle.

The sedan crashed into the man, and the vehicle dragged the man in a northerly direction before he came to a final rest in the inside lane of US-17, according to FHP.

A pickup truck traveling on US-17 did not see the man lying in the roadway and ran over the victim.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
