JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 61-year-old man was killed while traveling on his bicycle on State Road 16, on Monday at 3:16 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol.
He was hit when trying to cross the road. FHP says a pickup truck had cleared the road when the bicyclist went to cross, but he "failed to observe" that the pickup truck was pulling a trailer.
The right side of the trailer hit the bicyclist, FHP said. Then the trailer ran the victim over.
The victim was not wearing a helmet.
The truck stopped at the scene. The driver of the truck, also a 61-year-old man, was uninjured.
