JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Department of Agriculture officer was killed Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash on I-95 in Nassau County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 8:30 p.m., a marked patrol vehicle from the Law Enforcement Division of the Department of Agriculture was in the median access attempting to go into the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 380.
When the car pulled out, an oncoming SUV in the middle lane hit the passenger side of the patrol car, sending both vehicles to the right shoulder of the road.
The Department of Agriculture officer inside the car, identified as a 31-year-old James McWhorter from Middleburg, was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.
The four people inside the SUV, including two teenage passengers, were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
