Update: 23-year-old Jacksonville man killed in crash on Chaffee Road, shutting down all lanes

The 23-year-old driving an SUV was involved in a prior crash, blocking the north lane of Chaffee Road, when a second vehicle struck him and his vehicle.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: A 23-year-old Jacksonville man was killed in a crash on Chaffee Road Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 5 a.m., a sedan was approaching an SUV on Chaffee Road north of Falkland Road.

FHP said the SUV was involved in a prior crash and was blocking the north lane of Chaffee Road. 

The sedan struck the SUV and the 23-year-old driver who was standing outside his vehicle at the time of the crash.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

The 61-year-old Jacksonville woman driving the sedan suffered minor injuries in the crash, FHP said.

The crash shut down all lanes of Chaffee Road for hours Sunday morning.

Chaffee Road S. traffic was shut down in both directions from the 1400 block to Crystal Springs Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
