ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A 33-year-old Saint Cloud man is dead after a crash on US-1 in St. Johns County Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An FHP crash report states around 4:06 p.m., an SUV was traveling southbound on US-1 approaching the intersection of Las Calinas Boulevard at the time of the crash.

FHP said a second vehicle was slowing down ahead of the SUV as it approached the intersection.

As the SUV was nearing the intersection, FHP said the 33-year-old driver failed to slow down for the vehicle ahead and crashed into the back of it.

The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

The 50-year-old Palm Coast man driving the second vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt, the report states.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue told First Coast News the vehicle involved in the crash was a propane truck and resulted in an "active leak." Hazmat crews were on scene and the leak was mitigated, a fire rescue official said.

The crash shut down both north and southbound lanes of US-1, according to the Florida Highway Patrol's crash map
