CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A deadly crash involving multiple vehicles has all southbound lanes of Highway 301 in Clay County blocked Tuesday morning, the Clay County Sheriff's Office said.
The crash happened just south of County Road 218 around 6 a.m. According to a Facebook post from the Bradford County Sheriff, that's just north of Lawtey. Drivers are urged to take SR 16 east to Blanding Boulevard if they are headed into Jacksonville as an alternate route.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol traffic crash report website, the crash was deadly. FHP tweeted that the crash involved four vehicles, and one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
FHP says a vehicle traveling north crossed the median and hit a vehicle heading south. Two other vehicles also collided in the crash.
CCSO said on Twitter both the northbound and southbound lanes of US 301 were shut down, but the northbound lanes reopened after a couple of hours.
Clay County Fire Rescue also tweeted that crews are responding to the scene.
