JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is in critical condition following a crash in St. Johns County Thursday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP says a 24-year-old man from St. Augustine was traveling south on Lightsey Road around 6:30 p.m.
Troopers say for unknown reasons, the driver of the SUV didn't negotiate a right-hand turn, which resulted in a collision with a fire hydrant located on the left shoulder of the roadway.
The vehicle continued in a southerly direction, went airborne, and the front left side collided with the traffic control pole, FHP says.
Troopers say the driver was rushed by ground to Flagler Hospital and subsequently transported by air flight to Orange Park Medical Center.
