JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 65-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a vehicle on Lem Turner Road Monday night.
The crash happened at about 9:29 p.m. on Lem Turner Road near Ida Street.
A Nissan Altima was heading west on Lem Turner Rd. when the woman stepped out in front of the vehicle, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
First responders took the woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the Altima, identified as an adult male, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to JSO.
The woman is known to be homeless and has a history of mental illness, JSO said. Alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
There were several other crashes Monday evening and night that resulted in the deaths of three people in both Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach.
