FHP: 1 dead after car changes lanes, hits vehicle on I-95 near International Golf Parkway

A 64-year-old St. Augustine man was killed and a 64-year-old St. Augustine woman suffered critical injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A St. Augustine man is dead after a crash on Interstate 95 near International Golf Parkway Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An FHP crash report states around 10:53 p.m., a sedan was traveling southbound on I-95 in the inside lane of traffic, while an SUV was traveling beside it in the outside lane.

The sedan attempted to change into the outside lane and the front right of the vehicle hit the left rear of the SUV, causing it to run off the roadway, according to FHP.

The sedan crashed into multiple bridge support poles, though the 21-year-old St. Augustine man driving and the 23-year-old passenger was not hurt in the crash. The sedan also ran off the roadway and came to a stop on the right shoulder of I-95.

The SUV overturned and came to a final rest on the inside paved shoulder of I-95.

The 64-year-old St. Augustine man driving the SUV was killed and the 64-year-old St. Augustine woman riding in the vehicle suffered critical injuries, according to FHP.

The report states that the driver and passenger of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.
