Clay County deputy extricated from patrol car after crash with dump truck on Beach Boulevard

A dump truck crashed into the front driver side door of the deputy's patrol car. The deputy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Clay County deputy is recovering after a crash on Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville involving a dump truck that left the road blocked for hours Thursday morning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to the crash at 4:47 a.m. Thursday at Beach Boulevard and St. Johns Bluff Road. Rescue crews had to remove the roof of the patrol car to extract the deputy, JSO said.

The deputy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to JSO. He was conscious and alert. The dump truck driver was not hurt, police said.

The deputy was driving south on St. Johns Bluff Road and the dump truck was driving west on Beach Boulevard when the front of the dump truck crashed into the front driver side door of the deputy's patrol car, JSO said. Police are still investigating to determine who was at fault.
