JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — A woman riding her bicycle in Jacksonville Beach Wednesday morning was hit by a vehicle and died in the hospital, according to Jacksonville Beach Police Department.
Police were called to the crash at the intersection of 3rd Street and 13th Avenue South at 7:43 a.m.
The vehicle was driving south on 3rd Street approaching the 13th Avenue South intersection, and the cyclist was crossing from east to west, police said. The vehicle, an SUV, hit the bicyclist in the travel lane.
Police said the woman died at the hospital at 8:17 a.m. Her identity is not being released until her family has been notified.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and is cooperating with law enforcement, police said. Traffic Homicide Investigators were on the scene with all southbound traffic being diverted to 9th Street South, police said. Traffic has since cleared.
