JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A pedestrian died Wednesday night while attempting to cross a street on Jacksonville's Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO's Sergeant Hungerford says at approximately 9:15 p.m., a pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway in a northerly direction in the 2600 block of Normandy Boulevard while a 4-door sedan was traveling westbound on the street.
Police say the sedan was in the inside lane on the street when the pedestrian stepped out into traffic and was struck by the vehicle. Hungerford says the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene as first responders pronounced the pedestrian dead.
Hungerford says the driver of the sedan remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. He also says there are no indicators of impairment.
JSO says the crash marked as the 131st traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
