JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 42-year-old man is dead and another is injured after a car struck a pickup truck stopped near the Interstate-295 north exit ramp to Interstate-10 eastbound, causing it to move and hit the two men who were on the scene Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The pickup truck was on the scene assisting a tractor-trailer repair a tire at the time of the crash around 11:45 a.m., according to an FHP crash report, which does not indicate if the men were the drivers of the two vehicles.
No one was inside the truck or tractor-trailer at the time of the crash.
The 24-year-old woman driving the car tried to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by law enforcement and taken into custody, FHP said.
A 48-year-old man sustained minor injuries, and the 42-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.
The 24-year-old woman also sustained minor injuries from the crash.
Right now, it is unclear if she will face charges for the role she played in the crash.
The crash impacted traffic in the area for hours as crews worked to clean up the scene.
