2 killed in Sunday morning crashes in Jacksonville | JSO says speed played role in both crashes

The victims in the two crashes are the 38th and 39th persons to die in a traffic crash in Duval County.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Two people are dead and a third is injured after two separate crashes within an hour of each other Sunday morning in Jacksonville.

The first crash happened at about 1:15 a.m. in the 14800 block of Bartram Park Boulevard.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a Kia Optima was traveling north on Bartram Park Boulevard when it hit the median and crashed into a tree.

The driver, identified as a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead the scene, JSO said. First responders took the passenger to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators believe both speed and impairment were both causes that led to the crash.

The second crash happened at about 2:12 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street North and 44th Street.

According to JSO, a motorcyclist was speeding north on Main Street when she got onto the sidewalk on the east side of the road and hit a concrete electric pole.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The victims in the two crashes are the 38th and 39th persons to die in a traffic crash in Duval County. Additionally, the motorcyclist is the eighth motorcyclist to die in a crash this year.
