JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A man is dead after a shooting and crash Friday evening on Interstate 95 near Airport Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO responded to a crash with injuries on I-95 around 6 p.m.
Officers said nearby drivers stopped to realize the man was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said the man hit a guard railing and no other vehicles were involved.
The driver was transported to a local hospital where he later died, JSO said.
Officers also said that it's too early in the investigation to say what initially happened beyond the crash.
The incident has shut down all but one southbound lane of I-95 at Pecan Park Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department tweeted about the crash around 6:16 p.m., warning drivers that its crews are on the road and to expect delays in the area for several hours.
At this time, traffic is still heavily backed up to Pecan Park Road.
