JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person is dead after a carjacking in Duval County led to a high-speed chase into Flagler County, ending with the suspect crashing into the back of a semitrailer traveling south on Interstate 95, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, members of the Florida Highway Patrol Jacksonville Regional Communications Center received a call for assistance from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office in reference to a pursuit involving a carjacking suspect on I-95 South, according to a release.
The carjacking incident had taken place in Duval County, and the suspect was actively pursued through St. Johns County and into Flagler County by deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Once the suspected vehicle entered Flagler County, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to assist in the chase, the release states.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office did not assist in the pursuit.
During the high-speed chase, the suspect crashed into the back of a semitrailer and died at the scene.
The semitrailer driver who was involved in the crash is expected to be okay, deputies said.

I-95 southbound is shut down south of State Road 100 due to the deadly crash.
Deputies said the road will likely be closed for several hours. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.
Deputies said the I-95 SB on-ramp off SR-100 and off of Palm Coast Parkway are closed. All I-95 southbound traffic is being diverted to Palm Coast Parkway.
Other alternate routes available are US-1 and A1A.
