The man killed in the crash is the 34th person to die in a traffic crash this year in Duval County.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning in the Lakeshore area.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the crash happened at around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of San Juan Avenue and Cassat Avenue.

Police said an SUV traveling west on San Juan Avenue collided with a sedan traveling south on Cassat Avenue. After the collision, the SUV hit the front of a convenience store. The sedan ended up against a pole in the parking lot.

According to JSO, a man in the SUV was killed. Two of the people inside the sedan were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said it is unclear if alcohol or speed caused the crash.

Parts of both San Juan Avenue and Cassat Avenue were closed as crews worked to clear the scene. They have since reopened.

“That’s scary that’s really scary," Deitre Jackson, a driver who lives in the area said. “I would have ever imagined that this would have happened at this location.”

The man killed in the crash is the 34th person to die in a traffic crash this year in Duval County, JSO said.

“That’s concerning and alarming, we definitely need more patrol, we definitely need more police," Jackson said.
