Tia Unthank from the Jacksonville Science Festival & The Foundation Academy spoke about the event on Thursday.

“Jacksonville science festival is a three-day event that celebrates live science right here on the First Coast. We are bringing kindergarten through 12th grade students, college students and organization that are completely geaked out about STEM all in one place to share what’s important to them.”

The booths range all over the spectrum of STEM related topics, from engineering to agriculture to astronomy you can do it all ranging from looking at plants to looking at the stars, and most important the students have a hand in it all.

Unthank added, “About a hundred booths each day that are run by kindergarten through 12th grade students.”

Anyone who is interested in anything science or STEM related will find this festival interesting. Unlike science fairs where it revolves around an individual presenting topics this is groups and organizations that work on hands on exhibits.

“We have over 1,000 students coming on field trips today on Thursday tomorrow on Friday and we have no idea how many community members are going to come out but we expect about 3,000 at the Sea Walk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach Saturday,” Unthank added.

“Jacksonville science festival exist to bring equity and justice to the educational realm here in Jacksonville. We want all students regardless of how they learn to have an opportunity to be a teacher at an event to share what they have learned and to share what they are passionate about with our community.”
