JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - University of North Florida outfielder Donnie Dewees was selected No. 47 overall by the Chicago Cubs, late Monday night in Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft.
Dewees becomes the highest picked player out of UNF since the program transitioned to Division I in 2005.
The Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year had a breakout season for the Ospreys after a 2014 season limited to just 12 games with a wrist injury. In 2015, the red shirt sophomore ranked among tops in the nation in just about every offensive category.
He led Division I baseball in hits (106), runs (88), total bases (188) and slugging percentage (.749). He also finished tied for fourth in home runs with 18, while leading UNF to it's best record in program history (45-16) and a regular season Atlantic Sun championship.
Dewees is scheduled a slot bonus of $1,292,100 from the Cubs for being selected No. 47 overall.
