JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Twenty-eight-year-old Tevin Broyles is a humble, gifted, God-fearing young man who is easy to root for.
Raised in a small town in Mississippi, this Jacksonville 95ers guard loves the game of basketball. Broyles comes from a family of hoopers; his dad played, his mom played and so did his three siblings.
Like all of his teammates Broyles dreams of playing in the NBA. Despite the odds being against him, Broyles said he is not giving up.
"I would say don't put your faith in man put your faith in God because he already knows the plans he has for your life," Broyles said.
Broyles admits his basketball journey can best be described as a roller coaster. He has had to battle through injuries but there have been two constants: his faith and his family.
"Other than God, I say I give them most of the credit because their support allows me to continue to pursue what I'm doing," said Broyles.
Broyles said he does not listen to anyone who tries to discourage him. He added sometimes you have to be insane, in a sense, when pursuing your dream.
But, what most people do not know, is that becoming an NBA player is only one of Broyles' dreams, the other is becoming a professional singer.
Broyles said his grandmother had him and his siblings sing in a choir when they were kids. He admits he used to be shy about singing and that he did not embrace it until 2019.
Broyles will sing the national anthem on Saturday at the Jacksonville 95ers home game.
The game will be played at Edward Waters University at 7 p.m.
