PHILADELPHIA — Former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow has failed to make the Philadelphia Eagles initial 53-man roster.
The former Heisman Trophy-winner was released by the Eagles on Saturday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Tebow completed 21-of-36 passes for 286 yards and two passing touchdowns in four preseason games with the Eagles. He also ran for 82 rushing yards and touchdown on 14 carries.
It was thought that the Eagles tipped their cap to Tebow earlier in the weekend when they dealt former third string quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals for a conditional draft pick. However, that was clearly not the case.
Tebow would have served as a backup behind Sam Bradford and former Jets teammate Mark Sanchez, had he made the roster.
