Paris Preview, Thursday, Aug. 1: Simone Biles, Suni Lee

Simone Biles and Suni Lee will try to do something at the Summer Games that hasn't been done in more than half a century.

PARIS, France — Fresh off their gold medal win in the team final, Simone Biles and Suni Lee will look to make history in the women’s gymnastics all-around final on Thursday.

Here's some of the key events coming up on Thursday, Aug. 1 at the 2024 Paris Olympics:

Women's gymnastics all-around final

If either Biles or Lee win on Thursday, they’d be the first woman to earn a second Summer Games all-around gold in 56 years.

Biles would become the oldest women’s all-around champion since 1952. Maria Gorokhovskaya was 30 when she won the gold at the 1952 Helsinki Games.

An American has stood atop the podium in the women's gymnastics all-around final for the past five Olympics.

Carly Patterson won at the 2004 Athens Games, Nastia Liukin at the 2008 Beijing Games, Gabby Douglas at the 2012 London Games, Biles at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games and Lee at the Tokyo Games three years ago.

The event will mark the first all-around final that will include multiple Olympic champions in Lee and Biles.

Competition begins at 6:15 p.m. local time in Paris (12:15 p.m. ET) at Bercy Arena.

Swimming

Over in the pool, medals are on the line in men’s 200-meter backstroke and the women’s 4x200-meter freestyle relay

US women's basketball

The U.S. women’s basketball team will wrap up the group stage by facing Belgium, looking to extend its Olympic winning streak to 57 games.

The team has not lost in the Olympics since the 1992 Barcelona Games and have won seven consecutive gold medals.

The game is at 3 p.m. ET.

Track and field

The track and field competition officially kicks off for the Paris Olympics with the men’s and women’s 20-kilometer race walk events.

Friday will bring a much fuller slate of events, including the women's 100-meter heats, the final of the men's 10,000-meter race and the start of the decathlon.
