PARIS, France — Morgan Ray has secured a medal at the 2024 Paralympics in France.
Ray, 22, raced with Ellie Marks, Abbas Karimi and Leanne Smith in the mixed medley 4x50-meter relay team, finishing behind the People's Republic of China, who clinched a world record in the race.
"We did it. From now on and forever, I am a Paralympian," Ray wrote on Instagram.
The St. Augustine native is a student at the University of North Florida. He attended Bartram Trail High and swam at The Bolles School. During COVID-19 Pandemic in 2021, he trained in his bathtub.
Ray is done competing in Paris. He finished fourth in the Men's 100m Breaststroke-SB6, sixth as part of the mixed 4x100m medley relay team and 13th in the men's 200m individual medley-SM6.
Ray is the first Paralympic swimmer from Jacksonville in at least the last 20 years. Ray was born with achondroplasia, the most common form of short-stature or dwarfism, according to his bio.
Ray won a silver medal in 2022 for the men's 100-meter Breaststroke SB6 at the world championships.
