Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (16) warms up before an NFL football game against the Buffalo Bills, Monday, Sept. 23, 2024.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Trevor Lawrence has faced his fair share of criticism for his performance this season, and on Tuesday, he acknowledged that he hasn’t played his best.

However, the Jaguars' quarterback made it clear that his struggles aren't because he's trying to force big plays or do too much. Instead, Lawrence pointed to mechanical issues and simply missing throws as reasons for his subpar play.

"I think there have been times where I've been a little undisciplined with my eyes. I've maybe been a little sped up in some of my progressions, so maybe a little bit of that for sure. I think a few times my feet have gotten sloppy, which has caused some of my passes to not go exactly where I wanted them to. Then there are times where the defense is going to win, and they have a better call than we do at times," Lawrence said.

Despite the pressure mounting as the team continues its quest for wins, Lawrence's teammates and coaches remain steadfast in their belief in him. However, with the growing intensity to win, Lawrence emphasized the importance of playing loose.

“Situations like this a lot of times make you get tight and tense and be on your details and be locked in,” Lawrence said. “We’ve got to prepare the right way and put everything into it during the week. But also have fun. We’re playing a game, and we have an opportunity to do things that not many people get to do. So, keeping that perspective lets you relax and play better.”

Lawrence stressed that while he understands the gravity of the situation, he believes staying loose and having fun helps improve performance.

"Not to say that it doesn’t matter, because it does, and we take a lot of pride in it. But you also have to keep that perspective," Lawrence added. "I think that helps you play better and looser because you want to go out there and fly around, not overthink everything, and play free.”

As the Jaguars look to turn their season around, Lawrence’s mindset of balancing preparation with freedom on the field could be key to their success.

The Jaguars will look to turn their season around as they travel to Houston to take on the Texans on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m.
