Tyson Campbell and Jaguars agree to contract extension

Campbell joins Trevor Lawrence and Joshua Hines-Allen as players the team has drafted and issued second contracts to this offseason.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars extended another homegrown player Tuesday, rewarding 24-year-old cornerback Tyson Campbell with a new four-year contract, according to reports.

The contract for the former Georgia Bulldog includes $53.4 million in guaranteed money and $76.5 million total. Incentives bring his yearly salary up to $19.3M per year, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Campbell was drafted by the Jaguars in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft. He played in 11 games last season and accumulated one interception, five passes defensed and racked up 61 tackles. He had three interceptions and 15 passes defensed when he played in 17 games in 2022.

Campbell joins Trevor Lawrence and Joshua Hines-Allen as players the team has drafted and issued second contracts to this offseason.

"Jaguars owner Shad Khan recently cautioned, 'We cannot have this addiction to free agents,' saying he wants to build through the draft," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport posted. "Just like Trevor Lawrence, Tyson Campbell’s deal is another great example of how to do it. Reward your homegrown players."

According to Rapoport, Campbell is the highest paid cornerback in NFL history that had not made a pro bowl prior to his contract.
