JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Per a report by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Jaguars defensive lineman Folorunso Fatukasi, who was celebrating his 29th birthday on Monday, has been released by the team.
The Jaguars' social media team had earlier posted a birthday greeting for Fatukasi, unaware of the impending roster move. The management was reportedly unaware of the social media staff's plan to share the celebratory post.
This decision comes amid the ongoing trend of NFL teams making roster moves to create salary cap space in preparation for the new league year.
The Jaguars stand to save over three million against the cap, but will also incur a substantial cost of more than nine million in dead money.
Fatukasi had previously signed a three-year, 30 million dollar deal, with 20 million guaranteed, in March 2022.
However, his performance with the Jaguars witnessed a decline over his two years with the team, in contrast to his final two seasons with the New York Jets.
