Johnathan Cyprien signs a 1-day contract to retire as a Jacksonville Jaguar

Cyprien was drafted 33rd overall in 2013 by the Jaguars.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Former Jacksonville Jaguars safety Johnathan Cyprien signed a one-day contract to retire as a Jaguar.

After being drafted 33rd overall in 2013 by the Jags, Cyprien spent the first four years of his seven-year career in Jacksonville, and played the final snap of his NFL career in 2020 with the San Francisco 49ers.

"This is where it all started. It's kind of like when you go to a college, you can never lose your alma mater, same thing when it comes to the place that drafted you," said Cyprien. "Duval is so special. You come here, and it's engrained in you. DUUUVAL! And, I'm happy to say that I can always say it, and I can always stand on that because for the most part, the city loves me here and I'll always be back to help the community."

Throughout his professional career, Cyprien participated in a total of 79 games and started in 71 of those for various teams including the Jaguars, Titans, Falcons, Eagles, and 49ers. His career stats include 515 tackles, two interceptions, five forced fumbles, two recoveries, three sacks, and 16 pass defenses.
