JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Former Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith will be inducted into the Pride of the Jaguars this season.
The induction will take place on December 11 when the Jaguars take on the Minnesota Vikings at EverBank Field.
Smith will become the sixth member of the Pride.
“There is no question that Jimmy Smith was one of the best players to ever wear a Jaguars uniform,” owner Shad Khan said. “His contributions in the early years were critical to the success the Jaguars enjoyed during that time. The fact that most of his records have stood for 10 years without being surpassed underscores what a great player he was. I wish I had personally seen Jimmy play more frequently but I am very happy that we will appropriately honor him at EverBank Field in December.”
Smith went to five Pro Bowls as a member of the Jaguars after the team signed him as a free agent in 1995. He spent 11 seasons in Jacksonville, collecting 12,875 all-purpose yards and 69 touchdowns.
He owns franchise records for single-season and career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
Smith retired in 2006.
Smith will join offensive tackle Tony Bosselli, running back Fred Taylor and quarterback Mark Brunell in the exclusive club. Former owners Wayne and Delores Weaver are also members of the Pride.
