JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have a handful of players from the First Coast.
One of those players is Mac Jones who was drafted in the first round of the 2021 Draft.
Longtime Jaguars fan, Andy Scott said he's proud to watch a local succeed.
"For someone that grew up here and he was raised here, went to Bolles, it's nice to see a local player back on our team," said Scott.
Devon Quinlan shared a similar sentiment.
"We are absolutely a Mac Jones fan. It's great to have him here. Somebody for the kids to look up to knowing that he was here, and they can follow the same path if they work hard," said Quinlan.
The former Bolles Bulldog and current Jaguar, Mac Jones said he grew up a Jaguars fan.
"Went to a ton of games when I was little and followed them all the way throughout college. It's pretty crazy," said Jones.
This is a full circle moment for the Jacksonville native.
"You know, I just talked to my dad and I said, 'this is so weird'. He's like 'this is crazy! Now you're playing for the Jags and now you're out there playing,'" Jones added.
He said he doesn't take wearing the Jaguars uniform lightly. He understands its about more than just football. He wants to be the best role model he can.
"I really love that energy and that fan mail," he added, "I always try to respond to the fan mail and be grateful for the opportunity and hopefully some kid out there can play for the Jags someday too," said Jones.
He's on a one-year contract here in Jacksonville but wants to be intentional with his time. That being said, he plans on hosting several youth football camps.
