Jaguars prepare to take on Dolphins new defensive scheme

"It's the unknown because he's going to have his own ideas, he's going to have his own thoughts, and now that he's running it"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It's game week! We are less than seven days away from the start of the 2024 regular season.

On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars will kick off in Miami, where they'll take on the Dolphins.

The Jaguars and Dolphins have some similarities, as both teams have brought in new defensive staff this season. The Dolphins' new defensive coordinator is Anthony Weaver, who comes from Baltimore. Weaver is entering his 20th season in the NFL. Last season, Weaver's Ravens led the NFL in scoring defense, allowing only 16.5 points per game.

On the other hand, Jaguars defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen led the team to a perfect preseason. As the Jaguars prepare for the Dolphins, they are expecting to face new schemes.

"Some of us, we've played Baltimore the last couple of seasons and kind of understand what they've done. It's the unknown because he's going to have his own ideas, he's going to have his own thoughts, and now that he's running it, there's going to be some unscouted looks," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said.

The Jaguars want to start the season 1-0.

"I just think for us it would just kind of propel us into starting on that journey that we want to start on into accomplishing all the things that we want. That starts with beating playoff teams, especially on the road. I think that's a big thing, too," Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk said.

The Jaguars and Dolphins kick off this Sunday at 1 p.m. in Miami.
