LONDON, UK — It's time for the annual two-week sojourn to London coming off their first win of the season after four dispiriting losses.
The Jaguars served up some putrid performances, Cleveland and Buffalo in particular, but there is a semblance of a team there after a late 37-34 win over the Joe Flacco-led Indianapolis Colts.
Trevor Lawrence got the offense humming, with Tank Bigsby and Brian Thomas Jr. the standouts. The defense gave up 24 points in the fourth quarter before Cam Little hit a 49-yard field goal with 17 seconds (excellent Cure album).
The catharsis of Week 5 won't mean much if the Jags can't close in their home away from home. The resurgent Chicago Bears (3-2) have No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams at the helm and signs are promising when he isn't running for his life. Williams is probably their best QB since Jim McMahon though that is not an exceptionally high bar to clear. D.J. Moore can ball.
The Bears do have a precedent of great defenses. According to ESPN, the Bears are third in takeaways, interception rate, turnover percentage and third-down conversion rate. That unit looked ferocious against the worst team in the NFL last week.
The Jaguars are 6-5 all-time in London and three wins out of the last four! I certainly will take that.
Fitting the Jaguars play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. In the Premier League, Tottenham have a reputation for being "Spursy," essentially when things can go wrong, they will go wrong. Glimpses of hope are squashed by either the pragmatism of better teams or their own ineptitude. The Bears are not better than the Jaguars on paper.
Here's the injury list for the Jaguars in today’s game:
CB Tyson Campbell OUT
S Daniel Thomas QUESTIONABLE
WR Gabe Davis QUESTIONABLE
TE Evan Engram QUESTIONABLE
LB Yasir Abdullah QUESTIONABLE
In addition, Travis Etienne, Safety Darnell Savage and linebacker Devin Lloyd have been limited in practice.
