Jaguars could wear their teal alternate uniforms three times this season

The NFL is "relaxing" its uniform policy which previously allowed teams to feature throwback/alternate uniforms twice per season, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Jaguars fans hoping to "feel the teal" may get the opportunity to check out the team's alternate uniform three separate times this season.

The NFL is "relaxing" its uniform policy which previously allowed teams to feature throwback/alternate uniforms twice per season, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer. The report by Breer states that teams will now have the option to use the alternate/throwback uniforms in a third game.

The Jaguars public relations department confirmed the report on Monday.

The team revealed its three new uniform styles during the State of the Franchise presentation in April. The teal uniforms were an immediate hit with the fan base, as the color was initially a prominent feature of the franchise.

The Jaguars wore an alternate teal uniform twice last season and went 2-0 against the Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahawks at home. Prior to last season, the teal uniform had been missing from the jersey rotation since 2014.

Teal served as the team's primary color until owner Shad Khan purchased the Jaguars in 2012. Since Khan took ownership of the franchise, the team has focused mostly on white and black uniforms. Khan and the team have now gone through two uniform reinventions in the last six years.

When the new uniforms were revealed, Jaguars executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin said the move to bring back teal was based on the franchise's history.

“We have three players that should be in the Hall of Fame," Coughlin said in April.

"Tony Boselli should be in the Hall of Fame, Fred Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame and Jimmy Smith should be in the Hall of Fame. The thing that's important for me in thinking about this uniform is the connect. The players of the 2018 Jacksonville Jaguars will wear a uniform, that when they see those three people inducted into the Hall of Fame, they can relate directly to that. That's the distinctive, traditional, classic, uniform of the Jacksonville Jaguars.”

The Jaguars' first home game will feature an AFC Championship Game rematch against the New England Patriots on September 16 at 4:25 p.m. With a later start than the traditional 1 p.m. kickoff, perhaps the Jaguars will choose to wear teal as opposed to the usual early-season white uniforms.
