Jaguars cornerback Chris Claybrooks was arrested on April 15 in Nashville on charges of domestic assault with bodily injury and vandalism under $1,000 after an incident in which he is alleged to have grabbed a cell phone from a woman's hand and damaged it by throwing it the ground.
According to an affidavit, the incident occurred in the parking lot of a movie theater. Claybrooks is free on $2,500 bond with a court appearance scheduled for May 1.
According to the affidavit, Nashville police were called to the residence of the complainant, who said she was Claybrooks' ex-girlfriend. She said she was in an argument with Claybrooks in the parking of the theater at around 8 p.m. on Saturday after Claybrooks arrived at the theater with another woman.
The victim told police she informed Claybrooks' girlfriend that she had been with him the night before and had proof on her phone. She alleges that Claybrooks then grabbed her hand, ripped the phone away and threw it to the ground, destroying it.
The report said the victim had multiple bruises and abrasions to her right hand.
The report did not say when and where Claybrooks was arrested, or if he turned himself in. A spokesman for the Nashville Police Department said the arrest report was not yet public information since the case was still open.
Claybrooks, 25, has played primarily in a reserve role and on special teams since being drafted in the seventh round in 2020. After starting six games and recording 60 tackles in his first two seasons, he had only three tackles on defense and 10 on special teams last year, appearing in all 18 games.
He played college football at Memphis and is a Nashville native.
Claybrooks is in Jacksonville for voluntary workouts this week. A request for comment from the team was not immediately returned.
