Jaguars acquire Jacksonville native Mac Jones in a trade with the New England Patriots

Bolles alum Mac Jones was drafted 15th overall by the New England Patriots in 2021.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in a trade.

The Jaguars are sending a 6th-round pick for the former 1st-rounder.

Jones was drafted 15th overall by the New England Patriots in 2021, the same draft class in which Jacksonville selected Trevor Lawrence first overall.

It is a homecoming for Jones, who attended Bolles High School in Jacksonville.

The former Patriot has struggled in his three seasons in the NFL, going 18-24 with 46 touchdowns and 36 interceptions; however, he did lead New England to a playoff berth as a rookie before being benched multiple times over the last two years.

Mac Jones and C.J. Beathard will now backup Lawrence. The Jaguars' starter struggled with injuries toward the end of last season.
