JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Giving back to the community stands as a cornerstone of the Jaguars' organizational ethos, with a longstanding commitment to enhancing the quality of life along the First Coast.
Dawaune Smoot, the Jaguars' Outside Linebacker, reflects on the significance of community involvement: "Being recognized by my peers for contributing to the community is a tremendous honor."
Smoot's passion for education traces back to his formative years, inspired by a dedicated science teacher, Miss Vicky, who instilled in him a love for learning. "She made learning enjoyable, and I wanted to ensure that same experience for everyone," Smoot reminisces.
In pursuit of this vision, Smoot established the Elsie Academy, situated in Jacksonville's Southside. However, this academy marks just the initial phase of his broader ambition to revolutionize education for youth.
"We're developing a project-based bilingual school, commencing at the preschool level and aspiring to extend to elementary, middle, and high school levels," Smoot reveals, emphasizing his aspiration to leave no child behind in underserved communities.
His commitment extends beyond personal endeavors, driven by a desire to build a lasting legacy his children can cherish. "I want them to look back and say, 'My dad was pretty cool,'" Smoot chuckles, highlighting his determination to create a meaningful impact for future generations.
Education remains a pivotal focus for Smoot and his family, evident in his "My Cause My Cleats" initiative. Supporting his wife's organization, The Elise Foundation, Smoot's choice aligns with the foundation's mission to advance education for children across Jacksonville.
Through Smoot's dedication and commitment, the Jaguars' ethos of community engagement resonates beyond the gridiron, leaving an indelible mark on the region's educational landscape.
