Proposed construction timeline for Jaguars 'Stadium of the Future'

When will construction start on the Jaguars new stadium and when will they have to move games out of Jacksonville?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Many fan questions surrounding the construction of the Jaguars "Stadium of the Future" have to do with when construction will start and when the team will move their home games out of Jacksonville.

Jacksonville City Council members will finally be voting on the new stadium deal Tuesday. According to team President Mark Lamping in his agreements with city council, the deal has a rough timeline on when construction starts on the stadium, the expected fan capacity in the stadium in a given year and when they will have to move their home games elsewhere.

Here is what that timeline looks like:

2025: Capacity will remain similar to what it is today as construction isn't scheduled to begin until after the 2025 football season.

2026: The Jaguars will play in front of an estimated 43,500 capacity crowd with the closure of upper decks.

2027: Zero games will be played in Jacksonville in 2027. It's likely the club will be hosting the majority of its home games in Orlando or Gainesville. Additionally, the team will have the option to play three home games in London this season.

2028: New stadium complete and ready for fans.

During the 2025 and 2026 football seasons, the team could play three total home games outside of Jacksonville, which includes their "normally" scheduled home game in London. So, in effect, one extra home game could be removed from Jacksonville over this two year period.

Stay tuned to First Coast News Tuesday when the city council members vote to make the deal official.
