JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The high school football regular season will come to a close Friday, November 3rd.
And for one local team the 2023 season has been a major success.
"We've moved a lot in the right direction, but at the same time, I like to use the analogy of owing somebody $5 million dollars and you've paid them back two. It's a lot of money, but you got a long way to go still," said Bobby Ramsay, the Head Football Coach of the Impact Lions.
From only winning one game last season, to hitting wins in a row to kick-off the 23-24 season.
The Impact Lions started off with a bang.
Ramsay said, to appreciate the present, sometimes you have to look in the past.
"I was the Head Coach and Mandarin for five years and then before that, I was the Head Coach at Yulee for nine," Ramsay added.
Ramsay coached talented players at both schools.
"Derrick Henry, obviously we're known for Yulee. At Mandarin, Carson Beck was our quarterback on the state championship team who started for Georgia. Damario Douglas who's playing for the New England Patriots, Chris Mitchell who's starts at wide receiver for FIU right now," he added.
This isn't the first program he's turned around.
When he started at Yulee, the program was only in their second year. He said every step in building a team is crucial with little room for error.
"If you don't make the right decision and if you don't do things the right way, it might just be that much harder to get the program rolling," said Ramsay.
His impact has been felt from his first year at Impact to now. Starting quarterback, Han Price said he thinks so.
"Last year, I think I threw 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. This year, I've thrown 18 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions," said Price.
Price likes Ramsay's coaching style.
"If you don't have confidence, you're not going to get anything done on the field. You're going to be beating yourself up and coach always encourages me and talks to me after a mistake," Price added.
The Impact Lions record is 6-3.
They'll play their season finale in San Antonio, Texas on November 10th.
