Oceanway neighbors continue to fight Chick-fil-A proposed near First Coast High School

The landowner and a representative from Chick-fil-A listened to neighbors speak against the project at a community meeting Thursday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Over 100 neighbors living near First Coast High School spoke out against a proposed Chick-fil-A in their neighborhood.

It's a fight they thought they won last year as city officials did not recommend the landowner's proposal last year.

But, now he is trying to rezone the property with changes such as added parking and moving the restaurant closer to Duval Station Road.

The landowner and a representative from Chick-fil-A were at a community meeting Thursday night where neighbors shared the concerns they still have.

“You’re talking about using one road to go into your establishment and out of your establishment," one neighbor said to the landowner.

"The traffic is already a bear where I live can you only imagine what it’s going to be like with a Chick-fil-A," another neighbor said.

"None of us want Chick fil A even though we love Chick-fil-A we just don’t want Chick-fil-A there,” another neighbor said.

District council member Reggie Gaffney Jr. said the plans will most likely be deferred a couple weeks.

He said he’d like all sides to discuss more before the proposal goes before the city’s planning commission.
