JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Big news out of Mandarin — Mustangs quarterback Tramell Jones flipped his commitment from Florida State to Florida.
Jones, a four-year starter at Mandarin, announced his decision to join the Gators' 2025 recruiting class just days after decommitting from FSU. ESPN ranks Jones as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2025.
After making multiple trips to Florida throughout his recruitment, Jones returned to Gainesville on Saturday for an official visit during the Gators' win over LSU. By Sunday, Jones stood as the lone quarterback commitment in Florida's 2025 class, which also features five players ranked in ESPN's Top 300.
Before decommitting Thursday morning, Jones had been the longest-tenured member of Florida State head coach Mike Norvell's 2025 recruiting class. His exit came just days after Norvell announced the November 10th firings of three assistant coaches, including offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins.
Earlier this season, Jones spoke to us about his relationship with Texas Longhorns commit Jamie French Jr.
"I want to be great. That's just my number one goal," said Jones.
