CANTON, Ohio — A local girls' flag football coach has been nominated for the NFL Flag Coach of the Year.
Coach Ralph Graham, coach of the 18U team, will be in Canton, Ohio, this week.
Graham played flag football for more than a decade before deciding to coach. He has won three NFL Flag regionals, and his team will compete for a national title Thursday. They'll represent the Jaguars PREP organization.
Coach Graham has been coaching travel flag 5-on-5 and now has a chance to win NFL Flag Coach of the Year. The winner will be announced Thursday during the opening ceremony of the National Tournament.
"Coach Graham, yeah he's been great. He knows the game very well. He's played it. I know for a fact that he knows how to win games," said London Jenkins, a wide receiver for the 18U team.
"I think it kind of pats you on the back for all the hard work and time that you put in. To get a nomination like that, it's just kind of showing appreciation, 'Hey coach, we appreciate your time and effort that you're putting into these girls,'" said Ralph Graham, the 18U head flag football coach.
The team is set to play on Thursday at 4:35 p.m. against the Liberty City Warriors from Houston, Texas.
